I’m sold.

I decided to scope out the sunglasses situation at Dillards.  This was me really making excuses to go buy something bright red or blue for 4th of July, but “accidentally” ended up at the sunglasses area.  Why does this stuff happen to me???  I was leaning toward Ray Bans, and being the bargain shopper that I am, was trying to talk myself out of a huge purchase.  Well it was like a scene from “Confessions of a Shopaholic!”  I saw those classic aviators and they were calling out my name to rescue them and give them a safe home- just like Harley did!  How could I say no??  I decided on a great classic pair that were $189.  Ouch, but I kept adding up all the $15 pairs i buy and justified it.  I mosied on around the counter one more time to make sure they were “the ones” and i saw one more pair.  The lady got them out for me and i looked at the tag… 75% off!  I was so stinking excited!  So i paid $38 plus tax for a pair of $189 Ray Bans.  I’m not sure what the difference was in those and the full priced pair!  I think it must have just been last year’s shipment or something.  They are polarized, so thats a plus too.  The other ones were not.

I really do love them.  I’m on day 4 and they are still with me and unscratched :)   That is a good thing!  I wanted to give an update in case any of you are on the fence about the quality.  They are a MILLION times better than the cheap ones I have worn.  I think the cheap ones are great for big Jackie O or trendy shapes/styles, but if you want a good classic aviator or wayfarer, then i highly recommend Ray Bans.  If you have credit card debt, are unemployed, do not take care of things, are in a financial crisis, have small children rummaging through your car console, etc. then please disregard this post and remember that the inexpensive ones are great too!  They arent worth breaking the bank :)

So, I wanted to comment on your post last week that buying expensive sunglasses are so worth it–can’t you just tell the difference in the weightiness, and the way they don’t kill the bridge of your nose, etc? One should always keep cheap sunglasses for the beach/fishing/etc., but you should pay money for a nice, classic pair. I’ve found I take way better care of them too. And they just make you feel good.
